NICE RIDE

personal project

For this project I wanted to develop my understanding of Blender in a few core aspects, modeling, materials and composition. I designed both a car and its driver with the plan of having the car be 3D and the character being kept 2D and tracked into the shot once the car had its final animation.

My first attempt at the car's materials had it looking more cel shaded and flat which I quite liked but I decided to lean more into realistic materials so to have more contrast between the 2D character and to better learn Blender's lighting and materials workflows.

When the car was animated I rendered a few passes of the shot so I could easily mask areas where the driver would be obstructed. I also brought over the car's positional data from Blender and applied it to a null that I could use to keep the driver attached to the car. This meant I could animate the driver in place in Adobe Animate and not worry about them being in the incorrect position for more subtle movements.

I'm happy with the final result and will definitely use the same process again for more work.
